This professional role involves advocating for victims of violent crimes such as sexual battery, domestic violence, and homicides. The advocate facilitates victims' participation in the criminal justice process, assesses support needs, and refers victims to social agencies for services like victim compensation, counseling, shelter, and legal protection. The position requires follow-up on cases and victims' well-being, ensuring their rights are protected and they are informed of available community resources. The employee will work under the Violent Crimes Intervention Administrator, providing expert guidance in this field, including informing victims of their rights per Florida State Statute (F.S. 960.001) and ensuring proper follow-up activities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Providing crisis intervention and counseling referrals. Assisting victims at court proceedings, crime scenes, and hospitals. Scheduling and managing victim compensation processes. Visiting crime scenes, homes, and hospitals to provide support. Ensuring victims' rights are upheld and they receive appropriate services. Providing legal rights information and educational workshops. Maintaining detailed case management records. Developing and enhancing victim/witness programs. Recruiting and training volunteers or interns. Completing statistical reports and responding to official requests. Preparing and facilitating the U-Visa process. Participating in community meetings and performing other related duties. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, or a related field. Two years of practical experience as a victim advocate. Valid Driver's License (Florida Class E or higher required at appointment). Fluency in Spanish or Creole is desirable. Victim Service Practitioner Designation must be obtained within the first year. Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience, including six months of relevant experience, may qualify.
