Job Description

Taft is excited to invite applications for the Chief People Officer role to join our senior leadership team.

As a vital member of our senior leadership team, the Chief People Officer will partner with executive leadership to shape and implement innovative Human Resources strategies, policies, and compliance measures that support the firm's mission and long-term goals. This position serves as a trusted advisor on employment law, and we are looking for a candidate who possesses deep expertise in labor and employment law, a proactive mindset, and a commitment to cultivating a fair and inclusive workplace. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the human resources and benefits teams effectively.
  • Collaborate closely with the Chief Operating Officer and senior leadership.
  • Design and execute HR strategies that align with our business objectives and growth vision.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders on talent management, organizational design, best practices, and workforce planning.
  • Draft, review, and update employment agreements, policies, handbooks, and procedures.
  • Oversee recruitment efforts for legal professionals and administrative staff.
  • Develop and implement engaging onboarding and training programs.
  • Lead succession planning and career pathing for critical administrative positions.
  • Encourage a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance workplace culture.
  • Manage employee relations, conflict resolution, and engagement initiatives with care.
  • Design competitive compensation structures and benefits packages specific to the legal industry.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Oversee performance management systems and annual reviews for staff.
  • Ensure accurate HR record-keeping while maintaining data privacy and security.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field (master's degree or JD preferred).
  • 10+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead strategic HR initiatives and manage complex organizational change.
  • Extensive knowledge of employment law, compensation practices, and HR technologies.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
  • In-depth understanding of U.S. federal and state employment laws and regulations.
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
  • High integrity, sound judgment, and a dedication to ethical practices.
