Job Overview Responsible for safe and efficient operation of the airport within the authority vested through the City of Farmington and in accordance with FAA Part 139 and 49 CFR 1542 regulations. Responsibilities Acts as media contact regarding airport activities and responds to all airport emergencies (including anything from a minor mishap to a major airplane crash). Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and the general public. Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the Airport Division, City Administration, and the City. Coordinates between ARFF, ATC and Airport Maintenance for all airport emergencies. Determines necessity of closing airport; confirms with City Manager and/or Assistant City Manager and contacts the FAA; notifies airport tenants of closing, as necessary. Directs and supervises airport administrative, maintenance and custodial personnel. Enforces security in restricted areas, if necessary. Negotiates and leases airport space on behalf of the City of Farmington and handles related tenant problems. Responsible for collection of monthly boarding lists from tenant airlines; monthly lease payments from rental car tenants, restaurant, and other tenants. Acts in an advisory capacity to the Airport Advisory Commission; attends all Airport Advisory Committee meetings; works closely with the Chairperson, Airport Advisory Commission and the Office of the City Manager to develop and publish the agenda for each meeting. Prepares recommendations and specifications for airport purchasing and capital improvement projects; coordinates any construction work with other City personnel, contractors, airport tenants and the public. Prepares annual airport budget and submits proposed annual budget to the City Manager. Writes and administers airport and transportation related grants. Accompanies Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) inspectors throughout their inspections of the Farmington airport. Reviews and makes changes, as necessary, to Airport Certification Manual, Airport Emergency Plan and Airport Security Plan. Performs administrative duties in an office environment; supervision and maintenance duties are often performed out of doors within the confines of the airport. Responsible for handling airport related noise complaints and good public relations at the airport on behalf of the City of Farmington.
